ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Mrs. Arce. I am originally from Queens, NY but about 8 years ago my husband and I decided to make NC our permanent home. As you can see from my picture my family is very important to me. I have been married almost 12 years and I have a 7.5-year-old son and 3-year-old son. They are my pride and joy.

I have worked at a middle school in NC since I moved but felt it was time for a change. This will be my third year at Banks Trail Middle and I absolutely love it.  This will be my 15th year of teaching and I am ready for anything. I have taught Social Studies, Science and Language Arts at both the elementary and middle school level and have to admit that I am the most excited about this year's materials. I am pretty computer savvy and I like to do things both on paper as well as the computer so please expect that. I also communicate quickly through email so if there are any questions please feel free to email me them. I hope that his year is fun and you are able to learn a lot from this class. Good Luck!

About the Class

In this course, students develop skills through structured study and independent reading of literary and informational texts.  A variety of informational texts as well as four major types of literary texts are read and viewed both inside and outside of class.

Students compose various texts including informational pieces and narratives.  They proofread and edit for the correct use of the conventions of written Standard American English, and they improve the content and development, the organization, and the quality of voice in their writing through the use of revision strategies.

Students identify a topic to research, collect information from primary and secondary sources and present their findings and conclusions in oral, written, and visual formats.

Students participate in open-ended discussions, genre studies (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama), author studies and interdisciplinary studies connecting language and literature to the influence of a historical period.

Instructional Philosophy:  As an English teacher, my goal is to teach students to think critically and possess the attitude and character necessary to be productive citizens and life-long learners.  Students must actively work to solve problems, create quality products, and apply their learning in meaningful contexts.  Student learning will be our chief priority.
